Developer Session 1: Games Design. Exploring the metaphor of pop-up books in games

12:15 - 13:30
2017/09/05

In 2014 Nyamyam released Tengami, an atmospheric adventure taking place in a Japanese pop-up book. The game earned critical acclaim for its remarkable visual style and unique gameplay of folding and sliding parts of the world to solve puzzles and progress through the game. In 2017 the team at Nyamyam are still experimenting with ways for how pop-up books can inspire video games.

Jennifer will give attendees a rare look at their currently in-development game Astrologaster and show how it uses the pop-up book concept to facilitate a very different game design to that of Tengami. She will also introduce the team’s art workflow and provide an in-depth look and demonstration of the ‘Paper Kit’, Nyamyam’s first of its kind 3D pop-up editor.
